Will Design Hardscapes improve the value of my home?

On May 1st 1998, the Wall Street Journal said that "it will double the value of the project" so if you invest $10,000 you get back $20,000 when you sell your home. Curb appeal is one of the most important things in a home. Most buyers know by the time they reach the front door if they are interested in buying. If you have a cracked driveway and a lifted warped narrow walkway, your curb appeal probably doesn't reflect the quality of your home. The value in the enjoyment of your home will be immeasurable. Link to our testimonials page and you will see what others have said how much Design Hardscapes improved their homes.

Difference between stamped concrete and Design Hardscapes?

Stamped concrete has the same draw backs of poured concrete and a few of its own. Stamped concrete cracks, breaks, heaves, moves and with most patterns, is slippery when it's damp or wet. The colors that concrete contractors use to color the top of the poured concrete fades very quickly. Stamped needs to be sealed every year or the color fades even faster. Design Hardscapes uses interlocking paving stones which is what concrete contractors have models they stamp after. Using iron oxide pigments, our paving stones only fade 2% in the first 2 years and 5% in the next 20 years. Our pavers are non-slip, non-skid wet or dry. The color is throughout each stone, so even after years of service, the colors will be consistently beautiful. Paving repairs are simple. Just break out two stones and unzip them as much or as little that you need to repair water lines, electrical lines and then replace the stones and the repair is seamless vs. having to remove and replace the entire stamped concrete job.

What do I need to do to prepare for the beginning of my project?

With Design Hardscapes, all you need to do is supply an electrical outlet and water. We'll take care of moving tables, chairs, and flower pots to a safe location. We would like to set a time before the project starts to walk through the project with the project manager, the design and the owners, as well as a quick walk in the middle of the project to insure that all your needs are met. And then one final walk through when the project is complete. We want to meet and exceed your expectations and will work hard to achieve that.

Will it sink or lift up?

Using Design Hardscapes system of installation, your driveway, patio and walkway will not sink, shift or lift up. A Design Hardscapes driveway will double the load capacity of a standard poured concrete. We take great care to insure that your driveway, patio and walkway will outlast any other solid surface with beauty that is unsurpassed.

What maintenance will it need?

Your Design Hardscapes project is maintenance free. If you would like, we can seal your project using a high grade silicone sealer that gives it a wet look, but it is purely aesthetic and will need to be resealed every three to four years. Sealing services include a grease and dirt removal and acid wash and a coat of sealer. The process must be done in steps and requires two days to complete. Future sealing requires a dirt and grease remover and seal. Set up sealing for life with an automatic sealing every three years. We will remember for you and call to setup an appointment every three years.

Does grass or moss grow in the seams?

Grass, weeds and moss will not grow on your driveway, patio or walkway. But if you want the look of moss or grass between the pavers, we can install a grass stone or Ecostone which will interlock and provide ground water permeation. On walkways and small patios, we can install small shims between any of the pavers to allow for grass, moss or ground covers to grow.

Cost verses concrete and asphalt?

Design Hardscapes is generally more money then concrete and most often more than asphalt. Design Hardscapes value is much more than concrete or asphalt. Concrete cracks and breaks. Asphalt oozes and melts in the sun and cracks and breaks after just one to two years. Design Hardscapes will be the last driveway, walkway and patio that your home ever needs. With 75 choices of colors, patterns and stones, not only are you getting four times the strength of concrete and 35 times the strength of asphalt, but you get beauty as well. The genuine value of Design Hardscapes is laid in stone.

Can a heating system / snow melt be used with Design Hardscapes?

Yes, a snow melting system can be installed with a design hardscapes driveway patio or walkway. We have experience installing the heating system and employee a plumber, electrician to make all the final connections. There are two main choices in heating systems. First a boiler system that uses a liquid that is heated and pumped thought a system of tubing under the surface of the pavers. Second, is an electrical system that uses 12v/120v/240volts based on the project need. The electrical system has heating coils laid under the pavers. If you’re interested in a heating system for your project ask your designer for more information.
